Semyaza

Chief of the Watchers

Semyaza is chief of the Watchers in Our Watchers — The First Descent, an angel appointed to observe humanity whose compassion draws him toward a forbidden path.

Before the Descent

Semyaza stands among the Watchers as a leader shaped by steadiness rather than spectacle. His office is observation: to notice the unfolding world below without claiming it, guiding it, or becoming part of it. That boundary becomes the pressure point of his story. As the first world awakens and Heaven itself begins to strain, his attention moves from duty toward compassion—and from compassion toward attachment.

Keeper of Forbidden Knowledge

Within the story world, Semyaza is associated with enchantments and the cutting of roots. Knowledge is not presented as evil merely because it is powerful. The danger lies in crossing a boundary: revealing what humanity was not yet meant to possess, and allowing celestial beings to decide for themselves when intervention has become justified.

Aclia and the Mortal World

Aclia, daughter of Adam and Eve, becomes central to Semyaza’s forbidden-union storyline. Their relationship places the cosmic conflict inside something intimate: an immortal observer confronting a mortal life he was never created to share. The Archive keeps later consequences deliberately veiled so the novel can reveal them in sequence.

The Ancient Record

The Ancient Record

Ancient Enochic tradition also names a leader of the Watchers, preserved under forms such as Samyaza, Semihazah and related spellings. In 1 Enoch, the Watchers bind themselves together, take human wives and transmit forbidden teachings. Our Watchers draws inspiration from that tradition but develops its own characters, motivations, chronology and theology.

Source boundary: “Our Watchers” sections describe Belinda Jackson’s fictional canon. “Ancient Record” sections summarize source traditions for context; they are not presented as identical to the novel’s cosmology. See the Archive’s Ancient Records for references.
